Core challenges

Our client builds innovative solutions to support the biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in critical evidence-based decision making. It believes in providing the best available pharmaceutical care for patients; by bridging the gap between decision maker needs and quality research. With over 150,000 evidence resources, tools, and insights, supporting 1200+ products, the company performs quality, evidence-based research to help decision makers in informed decision-making.

To offer more comprehensive data-driven solutions for evidence-based decision making, our client wanted to upgrade its existing system. The company wanted to deliver better business insights for its leadership & customers via cutting-edge technologies. Its existing system produces data driven dashboards that present evidence-based analysis regarding the true value of drug. The reports not only just provide product cost, but also its effectiveness to improve the overall health outcome of patients. Thereby, helping its pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in taking necessary critical decisions.

However, the client needed to standardize this BI system using Microsoft Power BI; for ‘Data Model’ manipulation/optimization of the key dashboards. To achieve this, it was fervently looking for a trusted Microsoft Power BI partner, which can understand its data model, own it and deliver the required dashboards. And, it wanted the partner to deliver these dashboards with minimum engagement of onsite team.

Microsoft Power BI Solution

Our industry expertise around building Business intelligence solutions helped the team to architect the solution. The Power BI development team connected the client’s own instance of SQL Server Analysis Services database and worked with Data Model to make the data access more secure.

Our team faced multiple challenges while developing this Power BI solution. One of the most critical impediments was to calculate the ‘Weekly Average’ values for rolling quarter, which was not possible with the existing date hierarchy in the data model. We resolved the issue with the help of the client by making required changes to the data model.

Using Microsoft Power BI, we have created 7 data-driven dashboards that portray the comparative analysis of business cases aligned to the identified ‘Key Performance Indicators’ of the company. The KPIs are categorized based on Product insights, Evidence insights, Dossier insights and Formulary insights. Thereby, enabled the client to deliver critical insights for its leadership & customers through this comprehensive business intelligence solution.
